My philosophy has always been eat foods with REAL ingredients, go on a hike, drink a glass of wine and live life! That's a good suggestion re: oats to make them GF. I hope you liked it. They went fast in this house!<br />Batyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11933581673244142298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1021908234579372281.post-75821814703283079612013-05-03T23:24:30.891-04:002013-05-03T23:24:30.891-04:00oh no! Its a good reminder that even eating healthy food you can still rack up the calories. Having said that, I'd rather eat 10 of these burgers than 1 big mac! In terms of nutritional content a big mac is like eating cardboard. These burgers are guaranteed to contain HEALTHY fats, mono-unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are proven to lower your cholesterol unlike the saturated fats found in big macs that will raise your cholesterol. Its recommended to eat healthy fats with every meal! I'm going to make these burgers and cut out the cheese, oats (so they are gluten free) and just eat the patty like an open burger. Watch your portion sizes and you really shouldn't be 'freaking out' about these tasty looking things. Avocado and Tahini have fat, but the good kind. Soy has a lot of salt, so use lower sodium. You can skip the bun and just use the hummus as a topper. You really can't compare a burger with mushrooms, brown rice, tahini, flax seed etc. with a Big Mac. Seriously! If you eat three, wholesome, non-preservative meals (even with a higher calorie count) you'll be much better off than eating fast food. Don't stress it!Paulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1021908234579372281.post-19464385544505909492013-01-23T11:21:21.979-05:002013-01-23T11:21:21.979-05:00Hi there, Thanks for your comment. I found the article you mentioned, but I've never studied nutrition, so I'm reluctant to comment on the exact numbers (and I've never held myself out as someone who cooks low-fat or low-calorie, so it's not something I've ever investigated). I do know that avocado are very healthy, yet high in fat. I also suspect that the english muffin may be the culprit in this particular case, but that's just speculation. Sorry you are disappointed-- I halved the recipe (see serving size note), so they were probably fewer calories if you think of it that way.
